Gran Canaria Airport is the main gateway to Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. As well as serving a wide range of international destinations, there are also flights between Gran Canaria Airport and other Canary Islands. They include flights to the smallest of the Canaries: El Hierro Airport and La Palma Airport.

As with all the Canary Islands, Gran Canaria has year-round warm weather and is a good place to visit for some winter sun. Located on the eastern coast of the island, the airport is about 25kms south of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the island’s capital. If you like a good mix of city and beach life, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (or Las Palmas for short) is the best place to stay on the island. Highlights include the picturesque Santa Ana Square where you’ll find the stunning cathedral. Beaches are further north of the city towards Puerto de la Luz.
There are numerous beach resorts on the island – many in the south of the island. Popular ones include Playa del Ingles, Puerto de Mogan and Puerto Rico.
For families, Playa del Ingles is a popular spot. It has a lively nightlife and several beaches to choose from. The incredible Dunes of Maspalomas is also just next door to it. With miles and miles of sandy beach available, you can see why it’s a top choice for sun lovers.
Also in the south is Puerto de Mogan, which might just be the prettiest seaside town on the island. Full of whitewashed houses, narrow streets and bougainvillea hanging from the arches, you can understand why. Meanwhile, for a more resort experience, Puerto Rico is a good choice. The beach there and the one in neighbouring Amadores enjoy the shelter of being in a bay.
