Almeria Airport is on Spain’s southern coast in the east of Andalucia. It lies about halfway between Malaga Airport and Murcia Airport. Roquetas de Mar is one of Almeria’s most popular beach resorts. Its lovely historic centre has several important monuments including a 17th century castle, the watchtower of Cerillos and the Nuestra Señora del Rosario church. East of Almeria Airport, Cabo de Gata is a nature reserve with some beautiful beaches as well as several fantastic coves. Nearby towns include San Miguel de Cabo de Gata and San Jose. The more mountainous Sierra Nevada Nature Reserve is also nearby.

Almeria itself offers a good mix of city and beach life. A highlight is the 10th century Alcazaba, which sits on top of San Cristobal Hill. From the citadel’s walls, you can enjoy fantastic views of the city and port. Another highlight is the Nicolas Salmeron Park, where you can stroll under the shade of the palm trees that line it. Located by the marina, it offers great views of the sea and boats.

You can eat well in and around Almeria. In addition to local seafood, Almeria’s cuisine includes a hearty stew made with potatoes, egg, sausages and cod.
