Castellon Airport is one of Spain’s newest airports. Indeed, the airport only welcomed its first passenger flight in September 2015. Located 100kms north of Valencia Airport, Castellon Airport is much smaller but also a lot more convenient for visitors heading to the Costa Azahar. The airport currently serves international routes including London, Bristol and Bucharest.

The Costa Azahar (or ‘Orange Blossom Coast’ in English) is a lovely stretch of coastline in Spain’s east. Popular beach resorts in the area include Peñiscola, Alcossebre, Oropesa del Mar and Benicassim. Peñiscola’s old town is picture perfect and a big highlight of the coast. Jutting out on a peninsula, the crowning glory is its hilltop castle. Beaches lie to the north and south of the peninsula with the northern beach stretching 5kms towards Benicarlo. Peñiscola also makes a good base to explore the unspoilt Sera d’Irta Natural Park.
Alcossebre, Oropesa del Mar and Benicassim are smaller than Peñiscola but they also have lovely beaches. Benicassim is perhaps most famous for its big summer music festival.
Castellon de la Plana is the biggest city in the Costa Azahar. Although a few kilometres from the sea, the city offers an alternative to beach life. The old part of town has several pretty churches as well as a Museum of Fine Arts.
