The biggest of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca is a popular holiday destination. With incredible beaches full of white sand and sparkling turquoise seas, picturesque coves and charming hilltop towns, Mallorca’s appeal is clear. Whilst the island does have a bus and (albeit small) rail network, a car hire is still the best way to get around and explore the island. It’s not just more convenient and quicker, a car is often the only way you can access some places. And as the main gateway to the island, Mallorca Airport (or Palma de Mallorca Airport to give its full name) is the ideal location to pick up a car hire. In this post, we walk you through the process of collecting a Mallorca Airport car hire.
Our guide includes what car hire companies you’ll find with an on-airport location and how to find them. We also have a guide to returning a car hire to Mallorca Airport.
On-airport Mallorca car hire
In addition to well-known international brands such as Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Thrifty, Enterprise and Sixt, you’ll also find Goldcar and RecordGo. Some of them also share desks with sister brands. For instance Europcar shares a desk with InterRent, Goldcar shares a desk with Rhodium and Enterprise shares a desk with Alamo and National.
Here’s a look at some of the car hire desks in the airport…
Where to find them
On-airport car hire desks are conveniently located in Baggage Reclaim AND the Arrivals Hall. As is the case in other Spanish airports, they do this by having a window on either side so can serve customers from both sides.
So if you’re collecting a Mallorca Airport car hire after flying in: after landing and going through security control, follow signs to Baggage Reclaim. The car hire desks are towards the middle of the Baggage Reclaim hall. Europcar-InterRent, Sixt, Goldcar-Rhodium, Avis-Budget and Hertz-Thrifty are right beside each other. RecordGo and Enterprise-Alamo-National are just a little further up from the first block of desks.
Other services in the Baggage Reclaim hall include: toilets, an ATM and vending machines for food and drink. You can see a selection of vending machines in the picture below – they’re right by the car hire desks, which may be handy if there’s queues at the car hire desk.
And if you’re already on the island and collecting a Mallorca Airport car hire: head to the Arrivals Hall. You’ll see them towards the middle of the hall.
Got the keys, it’s time to collect the actual car
Once you’ve got your keys and sorted your paperwork, exit the terminal through the doors in the middle of the hall. Use the exit (doors no. 4) straight ahead from here (unless of course you need anything else at the airport before leaving). Note that there’s a cash machine by this exit too if you need to get some euros out.
Outside, there is a covered path (complete with moving walkways to help you along) that will take you all the way to the general car park. You can’t miss the car park itself. It’s pretty huge and directly in front of the airport.
Car hires are parked on the ground level of the car park. As you reach the end of the path, you’ll notice there is a cafeteria as well as colourful signs either side to the various car hire companies here. Each car hire company has a desk within the car park too so if you have any queries, you don’t have to go all the way back to the airport.
Got a car hire with another company?
There are several other car hire companies who offer rental cars from Palma de Mallorca Airport but aren’t actually on-site. However, they’re still relatively easy to pick up. When you book a car hire, do make sure you check the location and collection details. In general off-site car hire companies usually pick customers up with a courtesy shuttle. Your booking voucher should tell you where the meeting point it. you just need to check where the meeting point is.
