Girona Airport is the main gateway to the Costa Brava in Spain’s northwest coast. It’s one of several airports in Catalonia including Barcelona Airport, Reus Airport and Lleida Airport. Located just 15kms from the airport, Girona (also referred to as ‘Gerona’) is definitely worth a visit. A top highlight is the pretty riverside, which is lined with colourful modernist buildings. As well as being good for wandering around, the old town also boasts a beautiful gothic cathedral. You can also enjoy incredible views of the city and Pyrenees from the old city walls. Over the last decade, Girona has built up a big foodie reputation. It probably helps that it’s home to El Celler de Can Roca, regularly voted one of the world’s best restaurants.

If you’re a fan of Salvador Dali, Figueres is a must. There you’ll find the spectacular Dali Theatre-Museum, which the artist helped to design and curate himself. You can enjoy more Dali at his former home in Cadaques. Located 30kms east of Figueres, Cadaques is a lovely beach town with pretty whitewashed houses.

Other popular beach spots in the Costa Brava include Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar, Roses and Blanes.
