Gordon 10 for Belgian beers and Argentinian meat, Valencia: Spain car hire

Palm trees at the beach, Valencia

Valencia’s city attractions such as its pretty old town and the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences are big draws for visitors. But it’s also got some pretty fabulous beaches too! If you’re looking to see beyond the city with the convenience of your own car, you can pick up a great deal Spain car hire either on arrival at Valencia Airport or right in the centre of town at Valencia Railway Station. If you’re a beer and/or meat enthusiast, don’t miss a visit to Gordon 10 on any trip to Valencia! And with the World Cup coming soon, it’s a pretty good place to go and watch the games if you’re there in June too… (I’m guessing that most bars in Valencia will have screens tuned into it)

Gordon 10 is a restaurant and bar that we stumbled upon on our way to the old town from the beach. This, by the way, is actually a bit more of a trek than we’d expected but having decided to walk through the fabulous Turia Gardens (it’s Spain’s biggest urban park and used to be a river – see my post on it here), it was a lovely and traffic free one!  Having worked up an appetite and a thirst, we headed out of the park before the old town to see if we could find somewhere to stop. So glad we did too!

Inside the restaurant / bar

I’m not sure who Gordon is or even what the number 10 refers too but it has a nice feel inside. Lots of dark wood so despite covering quite a big space, still feels quite cosy. And it fits the bill of a gastro pub in the way you could feel comfortable just having drinks, casual dining or even a nice dinner for two.

Billed as an Argentinian restaurant and international cerveceria, it does a good job of both. Their selection of beers alone is the biggest I’ve ever seen in Spain. This isn’t all that hard to do bearing in mind you generally only get a few options (if that) normally. At Gordon 10 though, they had a whole menu dedicated to beers – beers from all over the world but the majority, I’d say came from Belgium. The menu also told a little about each beer including where they came from and strength. Although lots are in bottles, they regularly change the barrels they have on draught too.

Their food menu is also fairly expansive – though not nearly as expansive as their beer menu! And although expansive, the menu is like what you’d expect from an Argentine themed menu – full of meat! Meat off the grill, hamburgers, sausages and of course steak. There were salads too… We all opted for burgers or meat sandwiches. I had the choripan – the only time I’ve had a choripan before was actually in Argentina. It was great then and it’s great here.

In Argentina, the love for meat is all about simplicity. Simply very good quality meat. So much so that it shouldn’t need much doing to it… hence grilling (or asado) being so popular!

A choripan is simply a chorizo sandwich. Being Spain – the land that gave the world chorizo, it’d be a hard thing for them to do badly. In crusty bread and fries, it was a tasty and filling meal along with my beer. Great pub grub – and cheap too! The choripan, other sandwiches and burgers were all around €5 or less.

Choripan and fries – a bargain at less than €5

I’d love to come back to try out their mains – the steak in particular! They also hold beer tastings with food every month so worth keeping an eye out on their Facebook page to see if there’s one whilst you’re there.

There’s a lot of good food in Spain and plenty of options to feast on regional and national cuisine (it’s the land of paella so you’ll find lots of that!) but Gordon 10’s menu makes for a nice change.

Finding Gordon 10…

Outside Gordon 10

Gordon 10 Calle Conde Altea, 49 Valencia   Tel: +34 963 740 787 www.gordon10.com / www.facebook.com/gordon10valencia
Opening hours: daily from 6.00pm to 2.30am

Gordon 10 is just south of Gran Via del Marques del Turia – to the east of the Turia Gardens. It’s about 15 minutes walk south-east from the old town so walkable to if that’s where you are. If you’re starting at the beach like we did, you might prefer to drive, bike or take public transport… The nearest metro stop is Colón on line 3 and line 5. If you’re hoping to make the most of the beers here, public transport is a good option if you’re staying further away, otherwise it’s walkable to/from the old town.

There is street parking available around but remember to check for signs about parking. You’ll likely have more luck finding a space for free around here because it’s out of the old town.
