Madrid Airport is one of the biggest and busiest airports in Spain. But that’s probably no surprise given it serves the capital and is a hub for international flights to the country. The capital is just a short drive from the airport. And Valladolid Airport, which is located about 200kms north, is the next nearest airport.

Madrid is probably Spain’s most visited spot away from the coast. And rightly so! It’s a beautiful city to explore and an important cultural centre for Spain. For art lovers, it’s a dream. The Museo Reina Sofia, the Prado, the Thyssen and Museo Sorolla are just a few of the art museums the city boasts. It is also home to other important museums such as the Natural Science Museum and Archaeological Museum. Other great cultural sites worth a visit include the Royal Palace and Royal Theatre.
Whilst the city’s museums and cultural offerings will no doubt keep you busy, Madrid has some lovely spots for taking it easy. Plaza Mayor is a great for people watching and taking in a coffee or lunch. And El Retiro Park is the city’s biggest park with plenty of places to relax, stroll and even has a boating lake.
Beyond the capital, there’s plenty more to explore with a Madrid Airport car hire. Two of the most popular destinations (and for good reason!) to visit outside Madrid are Toledo and Segovia. Both are stunning historic cities and easy to reach from Madrid. Toledo is an hour’s drive southeast of Madrid whilst Segovia is about an hour’s drive north of the capital.
