Pamplona Airport is a small airport serving the Navarre region in northern Spain. It operates year-round flights to/from Madrid Airport and Frankfurt Airport. Seasonal routes also operate between Pamplona and Barcelona Airport, Tenerife North Airport, Menorca Airport and Mallorca Airport. As you can see, flight options to the city are fairly limited but Bilbao Airport is a good alternative. Although further away, it serves a wider range of international and domestic routes.

The city of Pamplona is just a few kilometres from the airport. It’s a lively and colourful city that is best known for its even livelier and more colourful festival. Held in July, the week-long San Fermin festival features the ‘running of the bulls’ every morning with bull fights in the afternoon. Outside of the festival, Pamplona makes for an interesting city break. It boasts several historical and cultural sites including the Palace of Navarre, a cathedral and several churches. The city also has a great foodie scene. Popular dishes from the region include suckling pig and a lamb stew called ‘Cordero al Chilindron’.

Exploring beyond the city is easy to do with a car hire. Around the city, The popular beach city of San Sebastian is just an hour’s drive north of Pamplona. And the Rioja wine region is about an hour’s drive west of the city. For nature lovers, the Urbasa y Andia Nature Reserve is a highlight of Navarre.
