Returning a car hire to Murcia Airport | Travel Blog | DriveSpain.com

Murcia Airport (full name: Murcia-San Javier Airport) is a small airport located on Spain’s east coast by the town of San Javier. It’s the preferred airport for many visitors heading to the Costa Calida. For the vast majority of people visiting, a car hire is the best way to get around. Keep reading for our guide to returning a car hire to Murcia Airport. If you haven’t already read it, you might also find our guide to collecting a Murcia Airport car hire useful.

The airport itself doesn’t actually have the best public transport links. Aside from taxis, there is an infrequent bus that goes to the airport from Santiago de la Ribera, a beach town a few kilometres away. So it’s obviously not convenient if you’re not in Santiago de la Ribera!

Murcia Airport car hire

Just a few companies have on-airport desks inside the terminal: Goldcar, Firefly and Europcar (who share a desk with InterRent, a subsidiary of theirs). If you’ve got a car hire with one of these suppliers, you can return it to Murcia’s P2 car park. In signs on the airport approach, it’s referred to as P “RENT A CAR”. This guide to specifically deals with the process for these cars.

In addition to the above companies, Dickmanns also have a mobile office based in Murcia Airport’s P1 car park. There are several other suppliers (including Centauro, OK Rent-a-Car and Keddy by Europcar) located at Murcia Airport but their offices are a short drive away. They do, however, offer a free shuttle service to take you between their office and the airport. So if you have a car hire with them, do make sure you check the instructions for returning a car hire to Murcia Airport. And do also allow more time for returning the car and getting to the airport.

Driving to Murcia Airport

From the AP-7, take exit 784 for San Javier and ‘aeropuerto’

The airport is located conveniently by the AP-7 motorway and N-332 coastal road. Rather than Murcia (the city of Murcia is actually 50kms away from the airport), you should drive towards San Javier. As you approach it, you’ll also see signs for ‘aeropuerto’.

From AP-7, you should take exit 784. After exiting you’ll come across one or two roundabouts with the airport (aeropuerto) clearly signposted. Whether it’s one or two roundabouts depends on which direction you’re driving on the AP-7. But follow signs for the airport and you should find yourself on Camino Iryda. After about 2kms, there is another roundabout. Take the exit for the airport, which is just a few hundred metres away.  and you should go straight ahead for the airport.

From the N-332, the airport lies between San Javier and Los Alcazares. The turn-off for it is well-signposted and will take you onto Camino Iryda. About 2kms into the road, there is another roundabout and the airport is straight ahead from there.

Last roundabout before the airport: the airport’s straight ahead, Santiago de la Ribera’s left and Los Alcazares is right

As you can see from the picture above, Santiago de la Ribera is left at the roundabout and Los Alcazares is right.

Nearest petrol station

The nearest petrol station is in Santiago de la Ribera, which is 3kms away. So as you approach the airport on Camino Iryda, at the roundabout above, head left for Santiago de la Ribera instead of the airport. After you’ve filled up, you can just head back up the same road towards the airport. There are also petrol stations along the N-332 in San Javier and Los Alcazares. These are about 4kms and 6kms away respectively.

Airport approach and P “RENT A CAR” parking

On the approach to the airport, drive past P1 Parking and follow the road as it curves left for the terminal. Drive past the terminal, which will be on your right. And the entrance to P “RENT A CAR” parking is straight ahead.

The terminal is just up ahead on your right. The P “RENT A CAR” car park is straight ahead.

If you’re returning the car during the car hire company’s opening hours, a relevant member of staff should be on hand to sign-off the car and you can return the keys to them. The car hire desks are inside the Arrivals Hall in the terminal.

Please note that since we took this photo, Centauro no longer has an on-airport desk. Their office is actually on the road to Santiago de la Ribera.
