Tenerife North Airport is one of two airports serving Tenerife in the Canary Islands and is located near the northeast coast. Tenerife South Airport, located on the south coast, is the other. Smaller than its southern counterpart, Tenerife North hosts mainly domestic routes. It also operates inter-island flights to other Canary Islands including to El Hierro Airport and La Gomera Airport.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital of the island, is just a short drive from the airport. It’s a vibrant port city with several museums, some fantastic shopping and a great dining and drinking scene. For a more authentic taste of Tenerife away from the resorts, don’t miss the capital. There aren’t really any beaches in the city but if you’re staying in the city, you can soak up the sun and enjoy a refreshing dip in the Maritimo Cesar Manrique Park.  And just a short drive north of the city, you’ll find a beautiful golden sandy beach at Playa de las Teresitas. Although man-made, Playa de las Teresitas is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island!

Like its sister islands, Tenerife has a great network of roads and a car hire is the best way to get around it. In addition to the many beaches on the island, Tenerife boasts a number of spectacular natural sites. The best place to experience Tenerife’s incredible and diverse landscapes is at Mount Teide National Park. Just be sure to wrap up warm if you’re heading to the top of Mount Teide.
