Tenerife South Airport, as suggested by its name, is located on the southern coast of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. The airport is the main gateway to Tenerife and the vast majority of international flights to the island arrive at Tenerife South. Tenerife North Airport is on the other side of the island and is generally better for domestic destinations. It’s also handy for inter-island flights to the other Canary Islands. Once you’re on Tenerife, the best way to get around is with a car hire.

Tenerife South Airport

Some of Tenerife’s most popular beach resorts are in the south of the island. Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos are both just a short drive from the airport. They feature golden sandy beaches that are actually man-made with sand imported from the Sahara. Los Gigantes is a little further away on the island’s western coast. Although it’s not the place to go for sandy beaches, you will be treated to incredible views of the cliff face that give the seaside town its name.

On the northern coast, Puerto de la Cruz and La Orotava has lovely black sandy beaches that are more typical of the island. And over in the northeast, Playa de las Teresitas is one of the more picture-perfect beaches. Like those around Costa Adeje and Los Cristianos, the golden sand has been imported from the Sahara.

Mount Teide National Park is at the heart of the island. And Teide volcano is its star attraction. The highest peak in Spain, it’s also the third highest volcano in the world. The park is the best way to experience the incredible diversity of landscapes in Tenerife.
