Vigo Airport is in southwest Galicia in Spain. It’s one of three airports serving Galicia along with Santiago de Compostela Airport and A Coruña Airport. Located close to the border with Portugal, it’s also the smallest of the three Galician airports. In addition to a small number of domestic routes, the airport operates seasonal flights to and from destinations including London, Dublin, Edinburgh, Paris and Rome.

The port city of Vigo is just a short drive from the airport. An interesting and lively city to spend a day in, Vigo is better known as the jumping off point for the spectacular Cies Islands. Comprising three islands, the Cies Islands are a 45 minute ferry ride from Vigo. The islands boast incredible white sandy beaches and are also great for birdwatching. During the summer, visitors are limited so make sure to book your ferry ticket in advance.
With a car hire, there’s more great spots on the Galician coast to explore. Nearby Pontevedra is another good city to explore the area from with a number of lovely beaches around it. For seafood enthusiasts, O Grove, a short drive from Pontevedra, is a particular highlight. And 60kms north of Pontevedra, you’ll find Santiago de Compostela, a historic and famous pilgrim stop.
