Get around Cyprus with a cheap car hire

Surrounded by the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean, Cyprus has long captivated those that visit… so much so, lots keep coming again and again. Here's a quick round-up of the various Cyprus car hire locations available for you to choose from.

Paphos car hire

Paphos, Cyprus - Mosaics, Archeological Park - Paphos car hire
Mosaics at the Archeological Park, Paphos

Paphos is a favoured place to explore Cyprus from but the city that most will become familiar with is actually Kato Paphos - the harbour area. Choc-a-block with bars, cafés and restaurants, it's an animated tourist centre with lovely sea views and within walking distance to some of Cyprus' best archeological sites. A visit to them will feel like a world away from the lively tourist hub that Kato Paphos is. You'll be in awe of the craftsmanship of the intricate mosaics at the Archeological Park but you'll also love the wilderness that surrounds them in this vast area. Make the most of your Paphos car hire with trips to some of the island's best beaches. Take it easy in Coral Bay or enjoy the unspoilt nature of the Akamas Peninsula.

Cyprus' second biggest airport is located on the island's south-west coast, just a stone's throw away from the sea. Fly into Paphos and collect a Paphos Airport car hire on arrival. Alternatively, we've got more car hire downtown in Paphos as well as in the Polis resort area should you prefer to have a Cyprus car hire for the odd day trip or two. And if you are flying into or from Paphos Airport, check out our Paphos Airport guides here.

Cyprus' second biggest city, Limassol is on the coast just 60kms east of Paphos and also 130kms west of Larnaca. A strong contender to Ayia Napa for its nightlife but Limassol is just that little bit edgier.

Well known for its long summers and mild winters, it's perhaps surprising that Cyprus is also a ski destination… The highest peak of the Troodos mountains located at the heart of the island is a whopping 1,952 metres! If you're coming to ski, the winter months are also the best time to see thousands of flamingos who make the Limassol Salt Lake their seasonal home. Check out the views and get off the beaten track visiting small villages along the way with your Cyprus car hire.

Got a taste for Cypriot wine? You don't need to go that far from Limassol or Paphos to find one of the country's various wine routes.

This charming town is quieter and feels more laid-back than Cyprus's other cities. Located just south of the border and an easy driving distance to fabulous beaches at Protaras, it's no wonder Larnaca boasts Cyprus' biggest airport with more and more people choosing to fly here as a gateway not just to Cyprus proper but also to the island's Turkish north.

Wildlife fans don't need to stray too far away from Larnaca - there are around 85 species of water-birds that come to the salt lake (the island's second biggest) here. You'll find picturesque scenes with the Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque serving as its backdrop.

Cyprus' south-west coast features some of the best beaches on the island. Long stretches of golden sand, hidden coves and the spectacular sea caves at Capo Greco are the star. Protaras is the Cyprus that many come here to find. Make the most of your Protaras car hire with a visit north of the border to explore the more relaxed and understated beaches of Famagusta.

Taking it easy in Ayia Napa

Cyprus' party town is the country's answer to Ibiza. Fun in the sun and fun when the sun goes down is the name of the game here. And Ayia Napa serves as a beautiful backdrop to all that fun. Need a breather? Pick up an Ayia Napa car hire and head over to the calmer (though still popular) beaches in Protaras or try those closer to Larnaca or north of the border in Famagusta.

Nicosia car hire

Yes, Cyprus boasts amazing beaches but it's worth making time for a visit inland to the capital. Take a stroll around and within the Venetian walls that surround Nicosia's historic centre as well as walk the green line that divides it into Turkish North and the Republican south (often referred to as Lefkosia). Nicosia is the cultural heart of Cyprus with and is the best place for a visitor to really experience what Cyprus is today. The island (and capital) may still be divided but the conflict is over and a visit to the city is a fascinating way to gain an insight into the island's past and present. And just for you beach lovers, Nicosia is a good stopping point on your way to exploring the fabulous Kyrenia coast in the Turkish North. See more with your Cyprus car hire.
