Fiestas del Pilar in Zaragoza

04 October 2013 By Luna Dizon
Over in Zaragoza, Spain, the party's just about to begin... And it's a 10 day festival in celebration of the city's patron saint - the Virgen del Pilar. There will be activities including live music performances, a funfair, tons of food and drink and even the city's own Oktoberfest everyday of the festival. The main events of the festival, however, happen on the 12 and 13 October where you can witness special parades with people dressed in traditional costume offering flowers. Read our post to find out more. And if you're looking to book a low-cost Spain car hire to help get you there and around, we can help you with that too.

16 September 2013 By Luna Dizon
The new series of Downton Abbey will soon be on our TV screens... hurrah! But if that's inspired you to go and visit Highclere Castle the setting for it, I'm afraid the summer visiting season is over. Don't worry though, they'll be opening their doors briefly a couple of times more in December. Read on to find out more as well as a few useful links to finding out more about the country's heritage highlights.

Love a good dose of culture? Well, you can have that and make a night of it with a tour of the city if they have a museum night (also often referred to as the long night of museums). I'm in Antwerp for their Museumnacht. Here's a little more about it... Don't worry that you've missed this one either, we give you a heads up as to museum nights coming up soon.

Spain's La Tomatina goes ticket only

02 July 2013 By Luna Dizon
One of Spain's biggest - and most random - festival makes a change this year. La Tomatina in Buñol is going ticket only. Over recent years, the event has attracted increasingly growing numbers and organisers hope to maintain the principles of the festival (fun!) and keep it safe by limiting numbers to 20,000. Find out about how to get tickets by reading our post.

Swedish midsummer and treats at Rosendals Tradgård in Stockholm

21 June 2013 By Luna Dizon
Happy midsummer! Hope you've got some sunshine to help you enjoy yours... Midsummer always makes me think of Sweden so I thought we'd head back there for a little on the Swedish way to celebrate midsummer as well as to Rosendals Tradgard, a positively summery place to visit if you're in Stockholm. Although if you are there for midsummer, you'll find it closed and all the staff probably around a maypole dancing and singing songs... This is what you should be doing too!

Seville's Feria de Abril

26 March 2013 By Luna Dizon
A thoroughly traditional fiesta full of frills, polka dots and some very fancy horses. Welcome to Seville's Feria de Abril! This Spanish fiesta lasts a week and includes an amusement park as well as a thousand tents for eating, drinking, socialising and dancing... you might just need an invite to enjoy the best of them though. Still, the feria is a fantastic way to enjoy colourful and centuries old tradition. Find out how to celebrate this slice of Andalucia in Barcelona too!

Eyes on Derry, Londonderry or could it be LegenDerry?

01 March 2013 By Luna Dizon
Thinking about where to go this year? How about Derry~Londonderry? It's this year's UK City of Culture as well as in Lonely Planet's top ten cities to visit! I go to see what the fuss is about and although I find I'm there on a quiet day for culture, it just gives me an excuse to enjoy its beauty as well as learn more about its troubled history. Sitting just north of the Irish border, it's also a fantastic location to base yourself whilst you explore the coastlines of both Ireland and Northern Ireland.

BBQ in Mallorca and everyone's welcome

25 January 2013 By Luna Dizon
The festive season may well and truly be over but in Mallorca - just as in much of Spain - there's another reason to celebrate just around the corner! I'm in Palma de Mallorca for the Festa de Sant Antoni and enjoy the patron saint of animals with a BBQ in the square. I might not have worked out how that celebrates the patron saint of animals but Spanish sausages like chorizo, longaniza and butifarra are definitely worth celebrating and feasting on!
