Art, canals and eating out in Plagwitz, Leipzig

06 December 2013 By Luna Dizon
To see a little of why Lepzig is being hailed as a 'new Berlin', head out of the city centre and to the up and coming neighbourhood of Plagwitz. Pretty canal views, industrial architecture and art await. My visit definitely made me wish I had more time. Read our post for a quick introduction to the area and some recommendations for things to do and places to eat.

Café Nora Roman at the Schaubühne, Leipzig

06 December 2013 By Luna Dizon
In my second post on Plagwitz, I head to Schaubühne, the art deco cinema that also has a café. I find it's a great place to soak up the laid-back and arts focussed neighbourhood as well as eat some tasty German food. If you're in town, I'd definitely recommend checking out Café Nora Roman at the Schaubühne!

Taste of Saxony at Ratskeller, Leipzig

03 December 2013 By Luna Dizon
Located in the heart of Saxony, Leipzig makes for a great place to explore the region from. And if you're looking to try some traditional food from Saxony, Leipzig boasts several great places to do just that. I check out Ratskeller, which occupies the basement level of Leipzig's New Town Hall. Ratskeller makes for a fantastic lunch or dinner spot to soak up the historic building (it's 'new' but it's still old at over a century old) as well as take a break from sightseeing. It's tasty and hearty fare so come hungry!

Girona for ice cream and frozen yoghurt

02 December 2013 By Luna Dizon
Girona in northern Catalonia is a great foodie destination with a host of great restaurants including the 'world's best restaurant'. What I realised whilst wandering its pretty streets is that the city is also home to its fair share of ice cream and frozen yoghurt places. We have a quick look at Rocambolesc, the ice cream parlour from one of the El Celler de Can Roca brothers as well a couple of frozen yoghurt specialists and why sheep milk is all the rage. Planning a trip soon? Check out our great value car hire prices and book in advance for the best deals.

Costa Brava markets and an introduction to the xuixo

28 November 2013 By Luna Dizon
If you want to get to know a city better, I would thoroughly recommend a visit to their market (or at least one of them if they have a few). See what the local produce includes, feast on local delicacies and just enjoy the sights and sounds of the hustle and bustle of a market in full flow. I go to the big produce market in Figueres just before heading to the Dalí Theatre-Museum and also discover the delightful xuixo. Read on to find out more. A

Bistro del Mar in Roses, Costa Brava

28 November 2013 By Luna Dizon
If you're looking for a good lunch (or dinner) spot by the sea whilst in the Costa Brava, then the beautiful bay in Roses is lined with restaurants. I love the beachside shack feel of Bistro del Mar and enjoy their menu del dia as well as the sea views. Roses is a beach resort in the Costa Brava that's about half an hour's drive from Figueres and an hour's drive from Girona. Read on to find out more... And if you still need to book your Spain car hire, you can get a quote here too.

Riverside seafood at La Riba Cucina del Mar, Girona

15 November 2013 By Luna Dizon
Hungry on arrival in Girona, the first question I asked my host was 'where would be good for lunch?'. She suggested Plaça Independencia and I'm really glad she did. Having immediately fallen in love with Girona's colourful riverside houses, I picked La Riba and a table with a prime view. The food at La Riba was also pretty damn good. La Riba is a place for seafood foodies (or seafoodies!). I had one of their set lunch menus and ended up with more than I bargained for! It was also where I was introduced to 'recuit', a typical fresh cheese pudding of Girona. This place is a real treat!

Fine dining at Nu Restaurant, Girona

14 November 2013 By Luna Dizon
Home to the world's best restaurant, El Celler de Can Roca, Girona is a hot destination for foodies. And if you can't wait for a booking there, it's worth a trip to enjoy the city's dining scene anyway! I try Nu Restaurant, a place that likes to dabble in molecular gastronomy doing modern Catalan cuisine with an Asian twist. Great for trying out a selection of tapas dishes, ordering a more traditional style menu or their tasting menu.
And if you're looking to explore Catalonia by car, don't forget to book your Spain car hire in advance for the best deals.

An introduction to a Turkish breakfast at Van Kahvalti Evi, Istanbul

05 November 2013 By Luna Dizon
Turkish food is one of those cuisines that has travelled widely and travelled well. But for a real taste of Turkey, you've got to go to Turkey. I visited Istanbul earlier in the year and fell in love with it. And one discovery on my visit that helped me do that is the Turkish breakfast. Featuring an array of fabulous savoury and sweet things, it's a feast that's best shared. We're introduced to it at Van Kahvalti Evi in the city's bohemian neighbourhood of Çihangir.
