Leipzig, Germany - Elsterfluttbett - Leipzig Halle Aieport car hire
Autumnal reflections from the Elsterfluttbett in Leipzig

On a boat, you can take in the lush greenery of some of Leipzig's biggest green spaces, residential and industrial neighbourhoods and cruise right into the city centre. The canals make Leipzig a fantastic place to be particularly in the spring and summer when you're more likely to find boats ploughing the waters. But if you're hoping to explore more of Saxony, you'll be better off having your own set of wheels. Visit Saxony's capital, Dresden, head down to enjoy the fabulous Elbe Sanstone Mountains and even pop over into the Czech Republic. Book your Leipzig car hire in advance for the best deals. On a recent visit to Leipzig, there was one neighbourhood that really made me feel like I wish I had more time. Although the historic city centre is charming in itself and features some great museums, it was the former industrial neighbourhood of Plagwitz that caught my attention. It's now quickly becoming recognised as a place where arts and culture are able to thrive. You can see more on my impressions of Plagwitz and a few suggestions of what you can do when you visit by seeing my earlier post here: Art, canals and eating out in Plagwitz.

Having walked past the colourful art deco building of the Schaubühne earlier on my wander through the neighbourhood, I couldn't help but feel drawn to the warmth of the café youI spent my first evening out in Plagwitz. Curious about seeing what was drawing artists to the area, I went for a stroll.

SchauBühne in Plagwitz

My host gave me a few suggestions for somewhere to eat on Karl-Heine Straße, which is one of the main streets that run through the neighbourhood. Café Nora Roman at Schaubühne, the art deco cinema was one of the recommendations. I think that even if it hadn't been recommended to me, I could totally see myself being drawn to it anyway! On a chilly November evening, the warm glow emanating from inside was certainly attractive.

Café Nora Roman

The café is what you're welcomed to when you come into the Schaubühne. It's a wonderful space that's casual and cosy (even thouth it's actually quite a large space) but with nice touches to show off the history of the building like the dark parquet flooring and art deco arch. It works as a café, bar and restaurant so good if you're looking for coffee and cake or something more substantial. It is also interestingly named after Nora Roman who is described on their website as a 'world traveller, feminist and muse of many artists'. I don't know any more about Nora but I already like the sound of her!

In my initial stroll through Plagwitz, I'd passed the Schaubühne earlier on but when my stomach was telling me, it was time to look for food, it was the place I wanted to go back to the most. Like I said before, the emanating glow from the inside was very appealing!

A German favourite - the wienerschnitzel

They have a great menu that features German favourites like wiener schnitzel as well as pasta and vegetarian dishes too. I go for the house wiener schnitzel with fries and a dark beer. Their house schnitzel was topped with parma ham, tomato slices and cheese and served on the plate with the sauce that came with it. I loved the whole thing and although the schnitzel was tasty and moist enough without the sauce, I very much enjoyed eating my fries with it.

My food and beer came to €12.50. Here it is below...
