Malaga Airport is the main gateway to the Costa del Sol and wider region of Andalucia. For many, a car hire is the most convenient way to get around. In this post, you’ll find our guide to collecting a Malaga Airport car hire. We also have a guide to returning a car hire to Malaga Airport up on our blog too.

Malaga Airport is the biggest airport in Andalusia and one of the busiest in Spain. For the majority of visitors who fly through the airport for beaches along the Costa del Sol, the airport is conveniently located. Malaga city is just 10kms northeast of the airport. And popular beach resorts such as Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Marbella are 7kms, 23kms and 50kms away respectively.

Malaga Airport: a bit of old and new

The airport has three terminals but only Terminal 2 (T2) and the relatively new Terminal 3 (T3) are actually operational. And both are connected to each other so you may not realise you’re even crossing from one to the other. An easy way to tell, however, is by looking at the building material… T2 is all cream and stone whilst T3 is all silver and metallic.

The vast majority of airlines use T3. Currently, only low-cost airlines Ryanair and easyJet use T2. In general, the arrivals level is on the ground level and departures level is on the first level. You can cross between the two terminals quite easily on both levels.

Collecting a Malaga Airport car hire

Unsurprisingly, Malaga Airport is home to a wealth of choice in terms of car hire. The desks are easy to find and it’ll be hard to escape the signs pointing you in the direction of them! They are located in Baggage Reclaim between baggage belts 28 and 31. A list of on-airport car hire suppliers (with desks actually inside the terminal) are below.

Once you’ve picked up the keys and completed the necessary paperwork, you can take the ramp down one level in front of baggage reclaim belt 28 for access to the car park. Once down, exit the terminal and cross the road to P1 and P2 parking, which are directly in front of T2. Car rentals are in both car parks but the agent at the desk will explain exactly where you need to go. Each company also has a cabin in the car park so you should be able to find a relevant member of staff if you have an issue or question about your car hire.

AENA, who manage Malaga Airport, has a map of where the car hire desks are and the path to the car park. You can download the map by clicking: Malaga Airport car hire location map.

On-airport car hire suppliers at Malaga Airport

As is the case at many locations across Spain, affiliated suppliers tend to share a desk. Here’s a list of who’s at the airport:

  • AvisBudgetMaggiore
  • EuropcarKeddyInterRent
  • GoldcarRhodium
  • HertzThriftyFirefly
  • Record Go
  • Sixt

Off-airport car hire suppliers

Most of the car hire companies located outside of the airport are just a few minutes away. Indeed, many of them are located on the main road heading up to the airport. Suppliers located off-airport include: Autoclick, Centauro, Del Paso, EnterpriseAlamo and Niza. They all offer a free shuttle bus that will collect customers at the airport and take them to their office. Outside the terminal, there is a dedicated bus stop for courtesy shuttle services.

If the location of where the car hire supplier is important to you, do make sure you check this when booking. Using our search tool, you can filter results by pick-up location.
